Handsome porcelain tea caddy decorated with Spode"s Blue Italian design which dates back to 1816. The illustrious Blue Italian pattern is based on themes of ancient Italy, blended together from a selection of architecture and scenery from local regions of the country at this time. Gracefully bordered by the rolling imari border taken from Japanese porcelain which was fashionable during this period. Josiah Spode perfected the process of blue underglaze printing on earthenware from handengraved copper plates.
