Description
The Chinese developed folding furniture very early on, with folding stools being recorded from the Han dynasty almost two thousand years ago. The folding armchair was particularly common during the Ming dynasty and was made either for traveling or for easy storage. Our version is a very accurate reproduction of antique Chinese chairs from that time and is carved entirely by hand. The main carving on the backrest depicts a Kylin (a Chinese unicorn), while above is a coiled dragon inside a 'ruyi' shaped medallion - a symbol of prosperity. The seat is woven, while the chair is fitted with decorative mounts. The carved footrest also includes decoration. Made of reclaimed elm, this large chair is beautifully created and will add a wow factor to any room. Colour: Black Lacquer
