It also works to prevent dangerous scalding incidents by limiting the temperature at which water can be used to below 40 degrees Celsius, preventing users being subjected to scalding water as could happen in more old fashioned set ups. If for some reason the cold water systems fail, allowing only hot water to come through the shower head, the shut-off valve will stop the shower, adding an extra layer of safety to a comfortable, controlled, and pleasant showering experience.
