Description
The British Library Ebullient Christmas cards, each reproducing details of angels from the richly illuminated borders of the Sforza Hours, now a treasured part of the collection of the British Library. Originally produced in Milan, c.1490, the Hours had later Flemish insertions, c.1517–20. The colourful and characterful angels decorating the borders play a variety of contemporary instruments, including cymbals, pipes, dulcimers, a harp, hurdygurdy, lute and kettle drums.
