Description
The British Library Illuminated with intricate gold foil details, cards reproducing three of the four lavishly decorated Carpet Pages from the Lindisfarne Gospels, originally created c.710721, and now in the collection of the British Library. Exquisitely detailed and richly ornamented, the pages are said to look like Persian carpets. Each acts as a glorious pause in the work: opening each of the Holy Gospels with a variation of a cross worked throughout the design. The cards feature the designs from St MarkÂ’s, St LukeÂ’s and St JohnÂ’s Gospels.
